An excellent morning - the Tree Pipit has relocated to the wet heath. Whilst watching it display I heard and eventually located a cracking male Redstart. I came across a Treecreeper carrying food and thought it was a bit early for nestlings. I watched it back to a rotten birch tree and the female emerged from a small crevice and took the food. I can't recall seeing that before with any passerines.

I wonder whether there is any chance of Turtle Doves returning here? I remember hearing them at this location in the 1970's.

Hi Aidan,
I would like to think so but it isn't very realistic. The habitat on and around the Reserve has changed a lot since I first became involved in 1982. Coupled with the dramatic reduction of Turtle Doves I can't see it happening but would love to be proved wrong.

0600 08/05/14 - 5/6 Tree Pipits calling/singing. Good views of two performing display flights and giving good views.
