141013 0700 to 1800 Another well busy day with lots of birds around all day. Spent the first 2 hours in Mere Hide but no sign of yesterday’s Spotted Crake. Following records are all North of Mill Pond Road including Aylmer clearing, Measure’s, Mead’s, Shoveler’s and north of North building. Vismig was occurring all day with finches and thrushes still going over at 5.30pm Redwing (2500) birds in East Dunes all day, all over the place Fieldfare (250) Blackbird (300) Song Thrush (80) Mistle Thrush 14S Ring Ouzel 30 minimum Goldfinch (120)S Brambling (90)S Chaffinch (40)S Linnet (20)S Siskin (50)S Redpoll (10)S Reed Bunt (10)S Crossbill 3 North Car Park Skylark (100)S Swallow 5N Rock Pipit (20)S Mipit (20)S Goldcrest (80) Robin (120) Yellow-browed Warbler 1 (Hawthorn middle of Measure’s late pm) Chiffchaff 18 Blackcap 3 Redstart 1 GS Pecker 1 Sprawk 4 Kestrel 1 Snipe 2S Woodcock 2 Measure’s Kingfisher 1 Shoveler’s Great Grey Shrike 3?? 1S though Measure’s early on. 1 Sleeper Track. 1 behind Field Station Mere White-rumped Sandpiper. Juv present from 1400 to 1800 at least Blackwit 9 Dunlin 10 Jack Snipe 1 Greenshank 1 Whimbrel 1 over late pm Stonechat 1W male in corner near Mill Pond Road late pm Barn Owl 2 Tawny Owl (h) in SF Sea Watch for 30 mins from 5pm produced Leach’s Petrel 1N Little Gull 2 ads N Gannet 4N Common Scoter 3N Regards Nige |

Hi Nige, Only addition to your very impressive list is a Yellow-browed Warbler, feeding in the sycamores to the rear of the Yacht Building at the start of the cycle track. Cheers, David Cohen |

Two Richard's Pipits were on the marsh east of the Sleeper Track And a red-breasted fly was seen in the sycamore clump at the northern boundary of the Reserve off Drake Road. Also woodlark on the saltings nearby (per John Nicholson) No sign of the RBF at 5.15. Kev |

Also a grey phal reported on Birdlines etc for Gib today apparently in the south west corner of the Reserve - any more news on this bird appreciated - thanks Kev |
