Hot news, John Clarkson has just phoned to say there are 4 Waxwings in the Dial a Tile car park on James Street Louth. Barry had 3 there yesterday.

These are the first stickers in Louth this winter.

Another visit to Dial a Tile car park this morning found waxwings had increased from four yesterday to twelve today.

12 Waxwings in the James Street, Charles Street bowling green area this afternoon from around 14.15 to 14.30. Then walked up to Louth cattle market and had 12 there in the sw corner of the car park which flew in from the south at 14.50. At around 14.55 they flew off north. Called JRC who had last seen the James Street birds fly towards the town at 14.40. The sites are 700m apart so it is possible its one flock commuting. Unfortunately JRC had left the site by that time so could not confirm it.

Following a discussion with Barry Clarkson who was still present with Waxwings at James Street at 14.50, there are two separate flocks of 12 in Louth.

We saw 17 in James Street early afternoon. Barry Clarkson saw more at the same location a little earlier.
They were taking berries, but we also saw them having a go at small leaf buds from other trees.
