Not heard much out of Frampton and Freiston reserves recently - how's the birdwatching there at the moment? Any winter migrants?

Hi Katherine.

Loads of Fieldfare and Redwing in the hedgerows at Frampton at the minute. Waxwings were spotted on the approach to the reserve on both Saturday and Sunday morning (alas, not by me). Hen Harriers have been regularly seen hunting over the saltmarsh for the last two-three weeks, the Whooper Swans have been on and off the reserve also and there have been good flocks of Pink-footed Geese on the wet grassland (700+ last Monday) along with the usual high numbers of Brent, Golden Plover, Lapwing and Curlew.

A pair of Bewick's Swans and Snow Buntings have also been reported as well as a couple of Brambling amid a mixed flock of linnets and goldfinches along the path at the back of the reedbed on Sunday.

The ducks are in striking winter plumage at the moment too; with both the Pintails and Shovellers looking particularly handsome.

Whereabouts? Before or after those two houses?

Went today and my winter migrant bank account is well and truly open!

First bird life I saw was a truly ENORMOUS group of 3000 Fieldfare and quite a few Redwings mixed in too! In addition, 7 Whooper Swans and approx. 40 Barnacle and 20 Brent Geese.

2 Mistle Thrush on TV aerials on house over the privet hedge this morning.
