I saw them yesterday..actually the best waxwing pics I've seen taken yesterday...not mine! Thanks for reporting they're still there..that's me sorted tomorrow |

Thanks for heads up Derick..nice to meet you..I was probably behind you as you were writing message..great day..loads of waxwings..fantastic company with Steve Watson & Steve Routledge & Gary "dude" Rivel..sorry if name wrong! Steve x2 counted over 100..then onto worlaby with Steve Watson to have great views of shorties & barn owl...also nice to meet the chesterfield birders & Rotherham Mark..who got awesome pics of Barny..all in all..fantastic! |

Nice meet you too Andy. Always good to put another face to a name. I'll bet you got some great pictures. Probably the most birds (100+) and best views I've had of the very confiding Waxwing. Since the massed ranks of Waxwing invaded Nottingham in company with a Cedar Waxwing. Can't see them going anywhere for a while, with a hedgerow full of berries. |

About 11 flew over Garthorpe (Island Farm) today at midday, heading directly for Burton Stather, 3km away for waxwings (but 25 by road). Andrew |

What is the largest flock of waxwings ever recorded in Lincolnshire? The photograph below was taken by Roy Harvey on 28th November 2012 at Burton on Stather. Each circle is a bird and each colour is 25 birds. The total is 226 birds. However, a number of birds were party obscured by branches and/or other birds, so the total may be slightly higher.

Just drove through burton late on..that tree on pic was full plus numerous other bushes..plenty of berries to go at yet. |

Further to Andy's post a couple of days ago, I couldn't resist the possible sight of "100s and 100s of Waxwings" in the Burton upon Stather area. I arrived there at c10.40 this morning (Sat) but there were no birds at the former stakeout on Tee Lane towards and around the Water Tower. However, the B 1430 from B upon St to Thealby (about 1 mile) was teeming with birds feeding on the roadside Hawthorn berries. I counted one perched group of Waxwings at c.75 and another further down the road at a similar figure, plus many birds actively feeding in the hedges. I met up with Mick W. digiscoping birds from his car. We reckoned that the Waxwings along the road numbered over 200, plus there were also large numbers of Fieldfare and Redwing (150+). Mick had also drawn a blank along Tee Lane. All in all, it was the best Birdfest I've experienced for some time. At one stage, there were 15 Waxwings drinking from a roadside puddle no more than 12 inches across. I stayed around until 11.30 by which time the Waxwing numbers had decreased considerably. http://pewit.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/2x-500-wings.html At least 400 Waxwings at Burton this afternoon and an additional 49 at Alkborough. Several posts on my blog at Pewit. The colour ringed bird from Orkney -- check the Grampian bird ringing group blog for a lot of useful info. Also if people could make an estimate of the percentage of adults to first winters in the flocks it will make for useful analysis. At least 3200 Fieldfares between Burton and Alkborough on Friday plus 1000 Redwings. |

In my first post when i mentioned best pics " in my opinion" i was referring to pewit blog..didnt want to say incase it was wrong to. |
