Rather chilly start to the day, with mist obscuring the view until about 11.30. Lovely views of a kingfisher from the 2 storey hide (Ness Pit??). Also 1 swallow seen flying over! Met a couple of friendly chaps who very kindly took me to see the ferruginous duck that had alluded me last winter. Same chaps also shouted me over to get some cracking views of the male smew. Two lifers in one day! Can't beat a spot of winter birding! ![]() |

Thought it was about time I got myself on here. I've been lurking in the shadows as an unregistered user for years! Hope you're healing nicely! ![]() |

Wondered if anyone has seen the Smew since the w/end please? I visited 'Far Ings' yesterday hoping to see that 'Smew' and Alkborough for the Dowitcher and was unsuccessful on both counts. ![]() Apparently the Smew spends some time out of view, under the tree cover near the Hotel. When I visited Alkborough in the morning I was informed the Dowitcher had been reported but was out of view at present. When I returned later in the rain, it still was. ![]() Just my luck! 10 Goldeneye and a Little Egret at Far Ings, on 'Bridge Pit' and 100+ Waxwing at 'Burton upon Stather'. ![]() |
