Reported by Andrew Gardener

Species Information: Great Grey Shrike

Date: 18th Nov 2012

Location Information: By A16, west side of road, about 1 mile NE of Langton and 1 mile SE of Ulceby Cross round-about, at 53:13:32.02N 000:05:59.53E. Initially seen on roadside hedge. The bird made its way west along a field hedge, until it flew out of sight.

Two very confusing reports on Birdguides a couple of days ago. Both placed the bird in the wrong OS grid square, one mentioned a non-existent footpath "to the south west" and the other mentioned a Grange Farm. The nearest two Grange Farms are both well away from the A16.

Presumably this report should read 1 mile SW of Ulceby Cross, not SE.

Spent hours looking for this bird, when all that was needed was a 6-figure grid ref!

Steve Meek reported on the other forum that the Great Grey 'was on wires near the entrance to Grange Farm, on the A16 not far SW of Ulceby Cross' on Nov. 18th.

I saw it at 12.40 (18/11/12) on electric power lines by the entrance to Grange Farm (off the A16) between Dalby Top and Ulceby Cross. According to UK Grid Reference Finder website the ref is TF 40350 72638, not sure how to get the usual six digit reference using that site.

The bird flew away from the location shorty after we arrived and was unable to relocate

Just use the first 3 digits from the eastings and northings, so TF403726.

Simples!

Saw the Shrike today, again on the wires just south of the entrance to Grange Farm at 1.30pm. I turned round and it was still there when I got back showing well.
