Following my wife's sighting of c.100 Pink-footed Geese flying E over our house in BBH, Lincoln on Sun 14th Oct, more daily skywatching on my part brought rewards today :

100-120 Pink-footed Geese flying W between BBH and Waddington c. midday. :D :)

Now that the fog and mist have cleared, some more inland skeins .......2 skeins this morning (Thu) :

32 PfGeese at c.09.30 heading NW towards Lincoln seen from the house in BBH.

....and seen from the garden 10.35, 200+ in one very wide, extended group flew well under the cloud cover over the house, honking loudly and heading N.....a super birding experience.

.....plus towards midday a flock of c.40 Redwings flew over the nearby BBH Recreational Fields heading W.....so they have now reached well inland.

While returning home from Gibraltar Point this afternoon (Fri) near Billinghay (Sleaford area), I could see some Pink-footed Geese heading towards me. I pulled off the road, parked and then watched them fly overhead N/NE......I counted 132.

While returning from Boultham mere today 12-45 ish and walking down the side
of the catchwater drain, 115 Pinkies over. ( counted from photo]
Heading due east straight over BBH, leaving me thinking what is Freddy
putting out to entice these birds?

Pete

Pete,

I think that relatively small BBH is conveniently wedged between Lincoln on the one side and built-up Waddington/the RAF base on the other, thus providing a welcome avian flightpath leading straight into a wide, open area of fields and fens stretching for miles (with no major roads or built-up areas.......towards Bardney and beyond (E) and past Metheringham in the other direction (S). It is an area nicely funnelled between the A158 and the River, and the A15. Some maps show that very well.
