A sea watch at the south end of Donna Nook this morning provided very similar results to the watch at Huttoft by Cliff Morrison. In two hours from 0930 on the falling tide, 63 juvenile Gannets flew north very close in, while a separate movement of mainly older birds involved 73 birds passing south much farther out to sea. Also heading south were 73 Sandwich Terns, 8 Common Terns, 17 Cormorants, one Shag, 3 Red-throated Divers, one Fulmar, 3 Common Scoters, 4 Shelducks and 66 Pink-footed Geese. Another Red-throated Diver was on the sea along with 7 Guillemots. 2 Arctic Skuas were harrying terns offshore. Birds of note on the landward side included 7 Kestrels, one Common Buzzard, one Great Spotted Woodpecker, one Rock Pipit, 4 Willow Warblers and 2 Whitethroats. 170 Swallows flew south. |
