Family visits, so not much birding and a bit behind in reporting records from Churchill southwards.

Turtle Dove singing in garden, Brickyard Lane 26/08/12. This bird stopped singing the week before, so I had assumed it had departed. Not seen again since.

Pied flycatcher in the garden, 27/08.

Marsh Harrier, since my area is all bushes in the dunes, harriers tend to be 'fly-bys'. 1 on 27th, 2-3 on 28th,1 on 30th, 1 on 31st and 1 on 2nd September, all south. 1 ad. male in fields at Manby this afternoon 6th Sept.

Osprey, 1 on beach early morning of 30th August, which put up 2,000 B-h Gulls before catching a fish from the sea, when it became the target of herring gulls. Note that Peter Roworth had 1 off the sea, flying inland, a couple of days earlier.

Peregrine, 1 on 23rd August on beach early morning, put up several 1,000 B-h Gulls. (did I report this earlier?) Also 1 on beach on 1st Sept, but later, so less gulls to disturb.

Buzzard, 1 over reserve and garden on 4th Sept going south mid morning. NB. John Walker's computer currently out of action, but he told me he had 5 off sea together at Pye's Hall earlier in the morning.

Caspian Gull, juvenile at high tide roost on 1st September south of Brickyard. No chips this time to attract it, but it was with a 300 or so black-headed gulls, not with larger gulls. Visually, it was in identical plumage to the 1 at Mablethorpe on evening of 27th, so could be the same bird. These are my first here, although they are regular close to our house in Cyprus).

Goldcrest, first autumn birds in garden and reserve on 2nd and 3rd September

Coal Tit, 2 in garden/reserve 2nd/3rd Sept. This is not a common visitor to our area.

Crossbill, 2 in garden this morning, 6th Sept, which came off the reserve and then flew SW.

Black-tailed Godwit, 5 on beach on 5th Sept, which are not regular birds here.

Regards
Cliff
