The highlight of the day was a juvenile Green Woodpecker at Pye's Hall - the fifth record for Donna Nook. The earlier ones all involved single birds on 31st August 1968, 11th October 1986, 6th December 2006 and 31st July 2010. Other birds noted include 16 Kestrels, 15 Swifts, two Cuckoos, 17 Teal, 5 Reed Warblers, 6 Willow Warblers, 19 Whitethroats, one Blackcap, 2 Marsh Harriers, 2 Sparrowhawks, 1 Greenshank, 1 Common Sandpiper and 3 Pied Flycatchers (one at Pye's and 2 at Quad 3). A spotted flycatcher at Pyes Hall. Catching Freddy up. My first of the year and I actually saw my first cuckoo too |

Chris, Your Spotted Flycatcher report at Pye's Hall today and Peter Roworth's S-T Dunes NNR singleton record yesterday are the first two coastal migrant SpotFly sightings of the 'autumn'.......so, it looks as if they are now beginning to trickle through to coastal sites. Freddy |

The spotted flycatcher was the only bird I saw in the bushes at Pyes Hall. However I did note note many bulldozers, diggers and dumpers. Donna Nook/Pyes Hall as we know it today will be totally different this time next year The place where I saw the flycatcher today (in the bushes by the sluice at Pyes) is where the bank will be breached to allow the sea to flood the area Make the best of what we have got this autumn as it amazing what changes there has been in the last six weeks |
