Combined count of the 2 sectors today 1030-1345hrs.

Walking out from North Cotes, I had a Spotshank within minutes, that was the only shank for almost another 2 hours, after which, I had 3 greenshanks and 8 redhanks across the marshes, but not until I had mud slopped through the creeks did I come across a single flock of 89 redhanks. Redshanks are always a problem to count and must be regularly under estimated.

Across the whole area, there was just 1 dunlin, 1 ringed plover,1 lapwing, but 4 common sandpipers and 4 whimbrel.

Oystercatchers were the commonest wader with 135 on the estuary and 160 on the tide edge. There was still 1 pair with flightless young on the marsh.

Curlew numbered around 120 birds, which were very flighty across the whole area as a single flock.

Little Egrets were in 2 groups of 5 and 8, but there was also 1 flying north up mid-river. Last month, I had a little egret that I tracked from Spurn to land on the pools at N. Cotes.

Ducks included 8 juvenile but flying shelduck, 4 teal and 3 common scoters.

Cormorants 12.

regards
Cliff
