A rare bird for me...Spotted Flycatcher. A single bird on the edge of the NNR today (13th) near Sea View.

Peter,

Spotted Flycatcher is also a 'rare bird' for Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes NNR......that's the first report this year.

Freddy

Chris,

Sad to relate......it's the one that got away. :(...........otherwise it would have been my 32nd sighting.

In the last few weeks I've seen about 8 Pied Flycatchers including 3 today on the Donna Nook NNR but haven't seen a Spotted Fly anywhere this year, still time though.

You are absolutely right, Geoff........there's still plenty of time left in August and September for Spotted Flycatcher sightings in the right places if previous years' records are anything to go by, eg.

A. Regular pre-migration inland stopover sites such as :

1. Linwood Warren (near Market Rasen)
04 Sep 10 - 9
31 Aug 11 - 8 or 10
03 Sep 11 - 6 or 7

2. Swanpool (near Lincoln)
22 Aug 08 - 9
28 Aug 09 - 5 (with Boultham Mere)
27 Aug 10 - 3
26 Aug 11-06 Sep 11 - 1 most days but 3 on 3 Sep, and 2 on 6 Sep

3.Dunsby (near Bourne)
15 Sep 10 - 4

B. Regular pre-migration coastal sites such as :

1. Gibraltar Point
29 Aug 09 - 16 (7 still there 31 Aug)
04 Sep 09 - 14
05 Sep 09 - 39 (with 23 on 6 Sep)
22 Aug 10 - 12
08 Sep 10 - 9

2. Donna Nook
05 Sep 10 - 10
07 Sep 10 - 21

3. Grainthorpe
07 Sep 10 - 6/8

4.Pye's Hall
15 Sep 08 - 13
16 Sep 08 - 10
21 Sep 08 - 6

5. Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes NNR
28 Sep 08 - 4
06 Sep 09 - 4.

Happy SpotFly watching. :D :)

Freddy
PS. Consolidated figures for 2011 are not to hand yet but probably follow a similar pattern.

Hi Freddy, I've also found Hubbard's Hills, Louth good for Spot Fly over the years with up to 6 birds in the last week of August and first week of September.

Geoff,

'Hubbard Hills' would seem to be another inland pre-migration group stopover site. Is there a focal point there for the Spotted Flycatchers or a Map Reference for Lincs birders wishing to check it out?

Park at the south end of the valley at Halfpenny Lane and walk north along the path by the stream looking at the tall trees on either side, it's only a short walk with plenty of benches.
