A quick lunchtime visit to Dunsby STW produced an aerial battle that lasted nearly 5 minutes. I watched as high above me a Hobby chased, swooped and dived at a Swift. The Swift obviously tiring eventually flew off in a staight line and the Hobby came up from underneath and grabbed it. it then flew in to a large oak tree with its prey where i lost it in the foliage. I have seen Hobbies catch hirundines but this is the first time I have seen one catch a swift.

Other birds at Dunsby STW

1 Lesser Whitethroat
1 Chiffchaff

1 Buzzard.

Wow, epic battle Ian between two masters of the skies.

There was also a Hobby high above Sloothby at 9:20am today before drifting slowly SE, also c90-100 House Sparrows were feeding on ripening wheat in a roadside field.
