Post subject:  National Whale & Dolphin Weekend Watch at Anderby Creek

Dave Miller, coastal ranger, has organised monitoring at Skegness Pier and Anderby Creek as part of the National Whale & Dolphin weekend 28/29th July

I watched from 1010 to 1440hrs with Helen Craven, marine officer at the Trust and then Dave Miller and Cheryl Leaning in the afternoon, the latter 2 people continuing until 1600hrs. Dave did a TV interview at Skegness Pier in the morning and will be able to provide further details of the same as required

I had a brief view of porpoise moving north beyond the outfall and there was a common seal which stayed in the area, otherwise it was all bird movement in the 31/2hrs I recorded:

Swallow 30+ >S in first half hour
Swift 28 >S.........mainly quite a way out
Marsh Harrier 1 >S......... low over sea before spiralling up very high and drifting on south
Knot 141 >S......... in small groups up 48
Curlew 65 >S ........ in 3 groups.
Dunlin 7 >S
Guillemot 3 >S......... all on sea swimming south
Common Scoter 245 >N........ in 5 flocks. All coming from SE and then coasting N about mile out
Fulmar 1 >S......... first I've seen this year, a bird that I used to see a lot
Gannet 15 >S.......... mainly fishing

Arctic Skua 4 >N
Sandwich Tern 19 >S............mainly fishing
