A bizarre addition to my garden list this morning was a Sedge Warbler which sang from my Alder Buckthorn trees from about 6.30am for half an hour. Clearly another late arrival which will now move on to more suitable habitat.
Having just returned from a holiday in Scotland it is clear that even in mid and late May many birds were just starting to arrive. When we arrived on 14 May the whole area was littered with Whearears and they remained in mumbers until the weather started to improve last Saturday. Redstarts were still conspicuous by their absence and Wood Warblers only appeared in numbers from about May 20.
