I visited 'Spendlows' this afternoon and recorded my first Yellow wagtail of the season! Today's bird was a male and it's behaviour indicated that it was a resident rather than a migrant. This site is still holding water but there were no waders present unlike last year and the only wildfowl was a single Shelduck.
This is the first spring that I have failed to see this species at my cattle's feet in the parishes of Baumber, Hemingby or West Ashby. They are usually regular passage migrants during April and a few pairs annually breed in the pea and sugar beet fields, but so far in 2012 not a sighting.
