I spent another enjoyable afternoon today (Wed) at Frampton Marsh RSPB. Highlights included :
Black-winged Stilt - vg views as it flew from an island in front of Reedbed Hide (where I was), flying over the hide, to come down -giving great views -between Reedbed Hide and East Hide....and feeding there for at least 30 minutes. Garganey - close views of 2 drakes feeding close together in the (really) wet meadow on the right towards the seabank. Black-necked Grebe - from 360 Hide Wheatear - 2 males just in front of 360 Hide Little Gulls - 4x1st summers Black-tailed Godwits - c.40 Dark-breasted Brent Geese - still c.300 Little Egret - c.15 Avocet - very good numbers of this wonderful bird spread over the Reserve.
I walked from the Car Park along 'The Hedgerow' to the Farm and back : incl. Sedge Warbler C. Whitethroat (plus male Brimstone and 3 Speckled Woods) but had no sign or sound of the possible Cuckoo or Turtle Dove.
I ran out of time, so was unable to trek to East Hide and the North Scrape for the Curlew Sands.....although, by all accounts, a very stiff, cold wind was blowing along the exposed top of the seabank.
Thanks to Mick Paine (RSPB Staff) for useful info re 'where to look' for 'what's about'. Also pleased to meet up with Trevor G. for a chat.
