Not much to add for the Bank Holiday weekend at the south end of Donna Nook. The best bird in the bitter cold of 5th was a Long-eared Owl. A fine summer plumaged Little Stint was amongst Dunlin on 6th when a Short-eared Owl and nine species of warbler were recorded. The Short-eared Owl and just regular species were noted on 7th.
Most warbler numbers are still quite low, especially when compared to the good numbers of last spring. The two commonest breeding species at Donna Nook are well down. Last year at this time, there were 55-60 Whitethroats present, whereas I have not recorded more than 11 so far this spring. Similarly, I have not had more than 3 Sedge Warblers in a day this year, but last year there were 15 regularly at this stage.
Regards SL.
