2 Swifts on Waters' Edge today but considering it is April 25th the total of <20 Swallows, 3 Sand Martins and 6 House Martins is abysmal; Reed Warblers in quite good numbers with 30+ but not much singing in the poor weather; also 20+ Sedge Warblers, 35+ Blackcaps and 16 Willow Warblers on 22nd when a Whitethroat and Lesser Whitethroat were firsts; a nice Black Tern 23rd - 24th http://pewit.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/bla ... patch.html 5 Common terns
Total of 17 Tree pipits at Laughton 24th and 95 Willow Warblers in song but no Whitethroats, no Garden Warblers just 1 Cuckoo and few Blackcaps -- a very odd spring

One Swift last evening (24th) at Donna Nook represents the earliest record here in 50 years. As you say though, Graham, it is an odd spring with some birds coming through early, and/or in reasonable numbers, whilst others are scarce or practically absent. It will be interesting to see if things eventually pan out.

Regards, SL.
