Came across a Grasshopper Warbler during a BBS at Owston Ferry on 20th April. Really. Talking of warblers, is the shortage of Sedge & Whitethroat general? Are they held up in Europe or affected by Sahelian drought or have I just missed them? Andrew |

Andrew Have just had 8 days in Extremadura and met up with Steve Fletcher who resides there; he confirmed that most migrants are late or missing but the weather in Spain has been most abnormal with no rain at all between September and the end of March most areas are parched and dry but since April 2nd northerly winds have been dominant often very strong and with frequent rain and snow on high ground; it was cool throughout and only on one day did it get warm and Beeeaters started pushing through with Subalpines and Woodchat Shrikes but warblers were really thin on the ground --so it could be that birds are backlogged, hopefully, and yet to arrive |
