Male Ring Ouzel still showing well against the short green turf in the paddock, 4.00 - 4.25 pm during a welcome break in the rain, when it was spooked by a Mistle Thrush and flew up into a tree at the edge of the wood.

Bird at Map. Ref. TF 220652 (Ord Map 122) in paddock with 2 horses as viewed c. 350 yards from the Sandy Road entrance along the Spa Trail. Parking on Sandy Road.

Jay also flew across the paddock. Thanks, John, for the info.

Ring Ouzel still present at 19:15 on grass for 10 minutes then flew to a tree and stayed put.

It was there at 16-30 today - briefly at the far end of the horse field before flying into the wood.

I couldn't resist another bite of the Ring Ouzel cherry at Woodhall Spa this afternoon (before the rain came). I arrived a few minutes after 4.00 and joined Russ Telfer at the stakeout. The Ouzel soon appeared and showed well on the grass until I left at c.4.35. A super bird and well worth my second visit. :D

Hi Katharine,

Not good news this morning. It looks as if the bird has flown. I,ve just spent half an hour, 08.50 to 09.20, there in the rain for the relatively meagre reward of three blackbirds, one mistle thrush, one song thrush, one jay and one pied wagtail. The paddock is always popular with thrushes but no longer the right one.

Still present early afternoon to-day and also Green Woodpeckers, Mistle Thrushes, Jays, Common Buzzards, Song Thrush etc. A site well worth visiting!

When I arrived at 6pm this evening, Jeremy Fraser (a colleague of John Watt, who originally reported the bird) was watching the Ring Ouzel in a Hawthorn by the track and he put me straight onto the bird. It soon flew down into a small paddock (on the right) opposite the large one which had previously been its favourite haunt. I now had much closer views than on my previous visits.

The Ouzel showed well and was still feeding in the small paddock as I left at c. 6.30pm. Today was the bird's 6th (reported) day.

How far outside Woodhall Spa is the bird? Is it reasonably close to the Boston - Lincoln Lincs Interconnect bus route?

I don't know the route the Boston-Lincoln Lincs interconnect bus takes.....but Sandy Lane (off the main Woodhall Spa- Horncastle (B1191) road) is about 2 miles from the main B1191/B1192 crossroads in Woodhall Spa. From Sandy Lane there is only a 5-10 minute walk to the Ring Ouzel stakeout along the Spa Trail ( with further details as mentioned in my posts above).
