Post subject: | Monks Wood, Nettleham Woodland Trust site |
Took a walk out with my family and pet dog this morning, so not ideal for bird watching but took the binoculars just in case. Monks Wood is at the end of Ashing Lane, Dunholme (just north of Lincoln). There are flower meadows (LWT), a new lake under construction (Lincs Co-operative woodland site) and the Monks Wood area managed by Nettleham Woodland Trust. It all makes for an impressive piece of land at what must be nearly a mile from the nearest road (except the access lane of course) so is very peaceful. Will take time to mature but makes for a nice wander. Have seen Water voles, Green Woodpeckers and Buzzards there in the past year. Today, despite our dog, I managed to spot; Reed Buntings x 6 Skylark x2 (but lots more singing) Chaffinch x 5 Tree Sparrow x 3 Lapwing x 2 Great Tit x2 Yellowhammer x1 Carrion Crow x1 PS The access lane and the site itself can be very wet and muddy so go prepared, having said that Nettleham Woodland Trust have put in some very good footpaths in Monks Wood that do keep dry and are suitable for the less able. |
