A male and female grey partridge may not be such a newsworthy sighting but I nearly fell off my bike when I saw them this morning. It has been a long time since I last happened upon a pair and for a little while they were in the open and allowed me to fill my face.

I couldn't escape the sound of chiffchaffing and I believe they are taking over the world, I hope they are not a threat to the white headed duck.

Balckcaps are easy to find now and we have a few singing well from suitable places.

Four sand martin passed and completed the early migrant experience today.

I searched with unreasonable hope for a black redstart only to be left questioning my optomism, I see Marston have had one now so I shall remain upbeat.

A short eared owl came across from the New Pits and hunted the Chowder banks with no regard of my close presence and my face was further filled, my smile grew.

The ploop, ploop of the avocet has now become an expected background noise.

We have the first coot young bobbing by parents now and I gaze at their rag-doll delicacy with the ponderance of potential horror that may lie ahead.

A cetti's warbler sang enough to catch my ear and not enough to be sure exactly where it was.

The rain fell and I left.
