Whilst cycling between Hogsthorpe and Sloothby this afternoon Monica and I chanced upon a Rough-legged Buzzard. I phoned George Rutter to let him know that there was a RL Buzzard flying over his fields and he soon appeared on his bicycle to get not only a farm tick but a garden tick as well!!
The bird stayed around for about an hour, obviously in hunting mode, searching an area between Hogsthorpe, Sloothby and Habertoft. What I found most interesting was the fact that it hovered frequently even though there was not even a hint of a breeze today. Hopefully George has a photo or two to put on the forum.

Photos uploaded. Thanks again for the shout. :D

This bird is probably a 2cy female,
Forsmans raptor guide suggests pale hood, diffuse trailing edge to wing, solid yet diffuse tail band, dark belly.Collins bird guide also shows a pale window on the upper primaries of birds of this age.
