I visited Dorrington Fen this afternoon (Mon) with my son, Alex, who as a Marine Security Officer is having a break from keeping an eye open for those pesky pirates and from riding shotgun/high velocity rifle on Oil Tankers criss-crossing the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Strait of Hormuz.

We arrived on the Fen just after 3.00pm, parked at the road corner at Map Ref Sheet 121 (Lincoln) TF 130 537 and watched the area of the Dorrington Drain. From the vicinity of our car, we separately considered that we had seen at least 5 Short-eared Owls up until 3.45 when the sightings fell off. It was a dull, chilly, moderately misty afternoon with no wind, unlike Dave Purnell's visit yesterday in bright, warm sunshine. Today from 3.15 - 3.45pm, there were nearly always one or two SEOs in view. :D

Also seen :

Buzzard - perched at the top of a tall Hawthorn, including being mobbed by an SEO
Green Sandpiper - flying up the main Dorrington Drain
2 RL Partridges
and after leaving the Fen, good views of a
Merlin dashing along at high speed.
