I arrived at Kirkby-on-Bain at 10.00 this morning but it was c10.30 before I caught up with the White Stork on the landfill tip. It later flew across the landfill tip road (giving good flight views) and settled on the large frozen lake opposite the lorry entrance to the tip.......perched on one leg on the ice.

Thanks to Trevor Gunby for on-site directions......... and we watched the Stork together, perched on its one leg on the ice, towards the end of my visit.

I was pleased to meet up with Trevor ( who has given us some super photos of the great White Stork - as well as the Great White Egret - over the past few days/weeks ).....plus c10 other Lincs birders. :D :)

Still present at 16h, on the far end of the frozen pit opposite the entrance to the landfill - the same pit that held the Great Egret - the second pit on the left as you go in.

Still present today at 13:10 feeding on the rubbish tip among the Gulls. When we walked past the tip an hour later we could not find the bird.

Stork was feeding on the tip at around midday then flew over to the middle of the three lakes to the LH side of the tip road. Since the ice has gone it seems to be favouring this lake but unfortunately for us it is the least accessible, surrounded by dense cover ! It still seems to be quite mobile though.

Still present today feeding on the tip between 0940 and 1055 whereupon it then flew to one of the inaccessible pits to the left hand side of the Tip road as you drive down it. Looked like it was trying to swallow a dinner plate sized piece of tripe at one point!

Matthew.
