Single male Blackcap at lunchtime today, in my garden (suburban S. Lincoln). The first one I've seen in my garden in 42yrs and then it's in the winter !! Best Wishes Derek |

I saw Derek Stead in Louth today. He told me he'd done the RSPB garden birdwatch on Sunday in his garden in Louth and the only bird he had in an hour was a male Blackcap that he'd never had in his garden before. I live around half a mile from him and haven't had a winter Blackcap in my garden for about 10 years. |

They only do it to annoy. I was told yesterday of a Blackcap in an Adlingfleet garden (sorry, it's in Yorkshire by about half a mile). That's in SE82 - a square that is well-watched, including all of Alkborough Flats and Blacktoft Sands, and which during the four Atlas years had 135 species recorded in winter ... but no Blackcap. Also had one in our garden here in Mablethorpe 2 minutes after reading this thread! A female drinking from the bird bath, our first seen here this Winter. We had one last Winter (a male) regularly coming to eat apples on the bird table, peanuts from the feeders, and aggresively chasing all the other birds away. |

Our female returned today, drinking and eating peanuts from a feeder, I have uploaded a photo to the "Common birds" album. |
