Since the 13th December I have passed a buzzard sp each morning sat on the hedge on the minor road between Aby and Withern. For the first three mornings as I passed by at 50mph (my excuse for not identifying it sooner) I thought it looked interesting. Yesterday morning I finally stopped the car and was face to face with a superb juvenile RLB just a few yards from the car.

The bird was present again this morning, hunting over the fields and rough ground looking north from the road. There is a small wood (Withern wood) adjacent to the road at the Withern end with metal gates on either side of the road (where it is possible to pull over). The bird was constantly on view until I left at 10am.

Each morning it has been sat on the hedge by the roadside between 755am and 805am.

Rough-legged Buzzard still present today in the same area. Mostly at about 400-500 metres range, but it did fly close on one occasion.

Between 10 and 11am the bird was showing very well, at times hunting immediately over the minor road.

Yep thats bang on. I had fantastic views on Sunday around midday. Right above the road for about 15mins - perfect. Seems to sit up in that wood on sides. Look out for the clouds of Pigeons if its not on show, it will follow shortly after, helped me know that i was in the right area.

All the best John and good luck.

Mark

Cheers Mark - quite handy that map marker thingy I think to help locate easier.

It might have to be a round robin - Hemingby, Withern, Thoresby Bridge then Donna Nook perhaps! :)

Still present, 10.30 - 12.00 at least, initially perched on the small footbridge across the Great Eau south of Withern at TF422808 approx. Flew 200m north to a large beech tree just before 12.00, when it also flushed a Green Sandpiper from the Eau.
