Post subject:  Kites - Colsterworth landfill

Had 17 red kites at the tip on Xmas eve - my highest total this winter (when 6-10 birds has been the order of the day) but only 4 there yesterday afternoon (Boxing Day). Also 1 raven yesterday further west towards Buckminster.

Of the Xmas eve kites, four were tagged. Two birds (white-blue & white-pink) I couldn't read. The other birds were white-blue A2 - which is a Lincs-bred bird tagged in June last year. This bird was present at the tip last December; it is now missing its LH tag. The other bird was white-white X1 - a 2011 bird for which no details yet.

Any visiting birders (and photographers) it is worth checking for tags and sending any details to colourringing@bto.org. Note kites are often down in surrounding fields, often near but not with gulls, and perch occasionally on trees (bot not often enough) on southern edge of tip when a lot easier to read tags
