Called at Huttoft around midday. Coming south along the road the first birds I had were 6 Tundra Bean Geese in an isolated flock in the field south of the Boygrift Pumping Station. In the next field just north of the pit was a mixed flock of c45 Whitefronts, 30 Pinkfeet and 3 Barnacle Geese. Couldn't see any Whoopers anywhere in the vicinity. Down't pit I was surprised to find it virtually frozen over with a small pool in the middle with 11 Greylags and 5 hybrid geese. No ducks at all. I'd just come from Sutton Brick Pit which was ice free. While I was there the 6 Bean flew in calling and landed in the field next to the rest of the goose flock. Walking back to the road from the hide 4 Bewicks Swans flew in off the sea and kept going south west. Finally found the Whooper flock of 56 plus 3 Mute a couple of miles further south on rape fields to the west of Roman bank. The Anderby area was very quiet as was the sea. |
