The Reserve is gripped by ice at the moment and only limited areas of open water remain available to the wildfowl. Amongst these crowded areas of water there is a female smew (Target Pit) and a male scaup (Ness Pit).
We had a male goosander passing by along the ice strewn River and a grey plover on Chowder.
I male marsh harrier was reported to me too.
We are putting out extra food for the bittern to happen across from today as the cold weather is forecast to continue.
