Black-necked Grebe present this pm. Also a Common(?) Sandpiper seen and heard in fading light. Flight call heard was two squeaky "Peep" notes in quick succession. Favouring the sand bars and Pit edges near to the roadside entrance. Might be worth a look in good light.

Regards

I spent 2 hours at Thurlby sand pit this morning, the sandpiper was still present but not approachable and I could not get close enough to be able to check the tertial pattern even with a 60x lens on the scope. However the bird appeared to have pinky/grey legs and looked to have a long tail projection so I think it is Common Sandpiper. The one time I flushed it it did not call. If anyone can get a closer view it would be good. The bird is favouring the northwest corner of the pit.
Also present:-
87 Pochard
3 Red-crested pochard, 2 males
7 Goldeneye
1 Black-necked Grebe
6 Little Grebes
c10 Great Crested Grebes
1 Dunlin
1 Green Sandpiper

The Black Necked Grebe was still there on Friday morning. The Sandpiper flew across the pit from the point (where we were unsure of its identity -looking into the sun and too far away) to close to the gate were we were parked. It was a common

Only two Red Crested Pochard and no Goldeneyes
8 Little Grebes

Visited my local lake again between 10.45 - 11.30 today Saturday. The Black necked grebe is still present, together with all 3 Red crested Pochard (2M,1F), also new today but often seen around the larger lake a Little Egret plus the following:-

4 Little Grebe
21 Pochard
3 Great Crested Grebe
14 Lapwing

No Sandpiper or Goldeneye on that lake could be on the other but didn't have time to check, I will look tommorrow.

Visited for the first time ever this afternoon. In addition to the Black Necked Grebe there was Drake Mandarin, Drake Goldeneye, at least one Drake Red Crested Pochard and 7 Whooper Swans together with good numbers of more common ducks. Single Common Sandpiper accidentally flushed on my arrival by the gate.

Certainly worth another trip.
