An extraordinary morning at Frampton. Windless! cloudy. From the car park saw flock of 11 small waders with white rumps flying. Thought they might be curlew sands but it seemed unlikely. The high tide covered all but the humps on the marsh. 1 spotted redshank over. 1 merlin on post - thank you Ian Ellis and briefly 3 marsh harriers in one scope view - again thank you Ian. 1000 black tailed godwits plus plenty of the usual waders flying around. From East hide: 1 spotted redshank preening with 3 greenshank 2 green sand and 2 curlew sand which flew off to the Haven. At North East corner of reed bed 14 curlew sand, 3 little stint, some dunlin and a ruff. All flew off to Haven. Between reed bed hide and mound another 11 curlew sand with dunlin. All feeding voraciously. It seems that the white rumped wader flock were probably all curlew sands. Total curlew sandpipers 27! Cheers Jonathan |
