Around 20 in Rowland Plantation this morning (at SE960119) though hard to be sure of the total. They were very watchable in bright sunshine and included at least four red males and some streaky juveniles (though I assume these were not bred here). The wood is also seething with newly fledged Coal Tits at present. If you go to see them, take a hard hat against the falling pine cones, and try to confirm any woodpecker or Treecreeper for SE91 for the Atlas. Andrew |

Someone has mentioned "eruption" in a recent post and I think we are experiencing one now! A flock of 42 Crossbills brightened up a very mediocre round of Golf at Market Rasen this afternoon! It was difficult to be certain but ther were probably a further two small flocks of about ten in the adjacent Dog Kennel Wood. I couldn't determine their ages - there's not enough room in my golf bag for binoculars!! |

I was out atlasing with Roy and Linda Harvey this morning. We had a party of 3 Crossbills (male, female and juv) on a green lane just north of Grasby. The male gave fantastic views perched up by the track. They flew n to Hendale Wood. It was a Grasby tick for Roy, who has lived in that area for 40 years. |

I would say that Gib has had parties of Crossbills passing through daily for at least the last 4 weeks. Largest flocks in the 60's and 70's. I've even had a flock of 18 over my garden. There just seem to be too many to mention on the forum everyday. |
