Hi All.
After 3 years of not connecting with the bird in this fair county had one last night at RAF Waddington.

So there was me leading a walk for the Lincs Trust around Greetwell Hollow in Lincoln and lo and behold, someone pipes up cuckoo calling ( did'nt hear the first couple), too many years working on noisy airfields). We wandered on! 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 and possibly 5 in view at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mind boggling, chased by pipits etc and even maggies joining in.

pr Grey part and a Peregrine fly through as well as Bee orchid and expected butterflies.

Cheers
Brian.

It does seem to be a very good year for cuckoos They are everywhere in my patch - Sandilands south to Gib and inland to Welton le Marsh. I know memory can be tricky but I can't remember so much cuckoo song for many a year.

It does seem very odd that there are virtually no Cuckoos over vast areas of the county but several in favoured spots. I have spoken to colleagues in Norfolk where they are similarly lacking from areas of the Broads. Could it be that Reed Warbler Cuckoos have done very badly of late while Mipit and other Cuckoos have faired better and hence reared more young? With so many Reed Warblers up here I have heard one male Cuckoo once and atother locales where there used to be up to 10 birds there are simply none. Turtle Doves are similarly almost absent.
