Texts just arrived that we have had cuckoo and kingfisher on the Reserve which is massive. Two little gulls on Ness Pit too.

Last night's dusk swift show (a conservative count of 100) is one of birdwatchings stunning spectacles, it's like Bempton Cliffs in your face. Stood in the right position you get demonic Harry Potter close ups that you think never happened as it all happens inside a second. One moment you are eyeball to eyeball then seconds later they are afar. You hear the whoosh of the wings and the snapping of the bills as the millions on insects are trawled from around you. Look up, left, right or behind you, the frenzy races on as the sunset's last orders reaches it's climax.

But then they are gone. Lost into an indigo sky that has swallowed up and hidden such a frantic life force inside the turn of a head. Before my eyes but maybe into another dimension. They somehow slip through a sleeve and I look around and wonder, "did that really happen?".
