A stunning Pom Skua was found at Messingham Sand Quarries this evening by Simon & Karen Spavin. The bird had a rather short spoon and was probably a third summer. When I arrived it was sat on a coots nest which it had raided earlier, eating all the eggs along with a few Black-headed Gulls eggs. It caused havoc when it had a fly around with the whole gull colony up in the air.
This bird did look rather tired and was no doubt a casualty of the gale force winds.
