I am not too surprised as, what was assumed to be the same bird, was seen flying south from Hornsea yesterday
and then reported over Aldbororough and later over Kilnsea. It makes one wonder why it bothers to go on the long forays
to Norfolk/Suffolk and Yorkshire. Maybe it's just trying to find another White-tailed Eagle as it wouldn't travel that far
to look for food.

A bird seen by Mick West yesterday around 1.00 pm yesterday,was possibly this bird flying over the Steel works at Scunthorpe heading for the wolds/Barton.

Yes, Ruckland again for last three days or so - mostly reported in the evening so may be going to roost there.

Yesterday evening it was south of the fish lakes in an ash tree on the edge of the field.

Hi Kev thanks for that information, very useful. I would welcome your opinion on my intended trip to see this bird. I have tried three times already and I think on the second occasion the pair of flying barn doors I saw being chased by a pair of buzzards to the south of Ruckland was indeed the mighty bird. But I hate stringy records, it was a very distant view and I would like to make certain. I intend along with the Dude (the wife "oh isn't the countryside lovely") to visit about 7.00 a.m. Thursday. I am thinking that having feasted on all those lovely rabbits and hares round there, it must start flapping those magnicient wings, sometime the following morning. As I will be visiting the Wetland site near Skegness in the morning, followed by Gib Point followed by Huttoft Pit, followed by a joyous visit to the Beach Bar, Sutton, I do not think I will be in a fit state for a bumble to Ruckland in the evening (what a curious name!). I would appreciate your opinions. Do not let that be a burden upon you. I am a serial dipper and I can always find consolation in the arms of Mess, Batemans!

Assuming it roosts in the Ruckland area, a morning visit could pay off if it needs to hunt. I know there have not been many people looking for it recently and it can spend long periods sat in a tree out of view - so its easy to miss. Good luck.

Fantastic close up views of the eagle this morning, 9.20am at Hagnaby. We were driving along a lane and saw it up ahead on a gatepost. It took off as we pulled up and made it's way across the field in an easterly direction. It stayed in view for 3-4 minutes before heading towards a stand of trees.
I've had three brief sightings at Ruckland but this was by far the best, the one time I didn't have a camera.
They say you always find things when you're not looking for them!

Wow Linda I am so jealous, what a sight to come across. Must have been a huge gate! Is that place, Hagnaby to the south of Maltby and to the west of Sutton. If so it shows the problem of finding the bird, it really gets around the area. Very interesting though that its active in the morning. I caught the briefest of glimpses of it around 8.45 having missed a spectacular showing at Ruckland by a few minutes. Even more frustrating is that I drove non-stop to get there for two and a half hours. Just think, if I had only gone just a little faster on that awful Lincon ring road, I would have seen it, like you have. I hope it did not travel too far East!

Stephen, yes it was the Hagnaby you mention. We were absolutely gobsmacked to come across it, especially as we had our daughter and her boyfriend visiting for the day, they couldn't believe their eyes.


Robert, it looked as though it was missing a 'finger' from it's right wing.
