Whilst at Ruckland today a gentleman from Scremby introduced himself and said that he had seen two Bee-eaters on his farm at Scremby on April 15th-16th. He managed to film the birds and is to send me footage from which I hope to be able to extract still images for consideration by the rarities committee. Roy |

Yes that's correct Roy - I didn't find out until just after they had departed. Jim's farm, at Grebby, is just over the hills from where I live. Adrian Blackburn knew about them whilst they were there but he advised Jim that if he told anybody he would be plagued by a mob of twitchers - so the news didn't get out until they had gone!! Jim also had a Golden Oriole singing in one of his woods for a while last year. Adrian did ask me to post the Bee-eater record but I never got around to doing so. |

Thanks for that Ed, perhaps I mis-heard the location and it was Grebby rather than Scremby. Jim has since been in touch via email and has confirmed that he will send me film of the birds. Roy |

Jim lives in Grebby and most of the farm is in Grebby but is does also extend into Scremby and Skendleby - 600 acres. I did an RSPB VFA on the farm in 2004. Ospreys are annual and he's also had Hoopoe. Spotted Flycatchers usually breed around Grebby Hall. |

Somewhat emotive language plagued by a mob of twitchers indeed! |

Never the less this is quite an impressive garden list. All of us could only dream of such rarities in our garden. |

It would never pass the moderators if I had quoted verbatim Adrian's views on twitching and twitchers!!! |

With or without 'big lenses', to be fair, some folk simply don't want to be invaded. Live and let live. |

I dont agree, most people can be enticed by money, the owner missed a good chance here of making a load of dosh, most people including myself would have shelved out a fiver ,i would have given a tenner-maybe more,, to see such pretty birds.!!!Maybe a fiver to charity/a fiver to the owner)?same thing happened with the squacco heron at johnsons ponds nr scunny.just an idea for future birds landowners. regards, Rog. |
