there i was going about my breeding bird survay counting tufted duck etc on the smallish pond approx half a mile from horse shoe point car park when i flushed yes flushed a juv sea eagle from the trees on the farm building side of the pond. it absolutely frightened me to death, this huge apperition rearing up out of the trees not 10 yds from me. it was so close and so big it did not regester as a bird just a huge shape like dracula swirling his cloak around himself leaving me absolutely open mouthed , speachless as it drifted around the corner of the trees lost to view. i ran to where it disappeared around the corner but could not see it, didn't know which way it had gone. went back to the farmers rd to find it flying very low straight up the rd towards me. it passed over my head approx 20ft up much to close for a camera and being so close your absolutely on overload trying to take in info about the bird and shaking like a leaf. it carried on past me being harried by a carrion crow and shortly joined by a imm marsh harrier and all 3 birds headed in the direction of grainthorpe haven approx half mile inland from the seawall. the bird disappeared in the distant haze still with the harrier in company heading south still very low approx 40-50 ft high. my heart has been fully loaded for stress today should live till i am ninety. now about the bird,
no wing tags
no leg ring
thought it might be a different bird to the louth bird i did not notice any missing flight feathers but i was really a lot to close to take it all in so its poss i missed that
juv bird just a bit of colour and mottled around the neck - shoulders area but not much
hells bells wot a site totally too much to take in, still gobsmacked :D :D :D :D

bumped into graham catley and kev at pyes about hour and half later and was still up there lads got a headache as well, just a thought that geoffs report juv eagle going north from grainthorpe it might have returned to that pond area where there was a yard full of young turkeys and a few wildfowl on the pond. a look in the same place might not go amiss. in my lifetime i will never experiance a sea eagle again like that. to flush it, ye gods, if i was stood on the roof of my car as it passed overhead i could have touched it, what an experiance. the majesty, the power, the beauty of the bird was overwhelming, i will not sleep tonight :D :D :D

Nice one Terry, don't tell me it was on a ttv, if so that must be the best ttv in Lincs in the last 4 years, possibly in England!

Eagle in trees at Farforth this evening - then flew towards Scamblesby at 1740. A black kite appeared about 10 mins earlier and mobbed the eagle in flight.

Another awesome raptor experience in Lincs !

Cheers

Kev
