A Swift over my garden today equals my earliest ever: also around the pits this am 10+ Grasshopper Warblers and lots of spots not checked, 40+ Sedge, 40+ Reed, 7 Whitethroat, 3 Common Terns, Long-tailed Duck and 4 Goldeneyes and 4+ Wheatears Subsequent walk this evening revealed that there were at least 14 singing Grasshopper Warblers and there was a lot of foreshore that I did not cover late on -- during the morning the only birds that sang were those responding to other birds but this evening there were 7 birds where I had only had 3 on several days prior to tonight showing just how many could be present -- these are the highest numbers of Groppers I have ever known in 42 years birding |

confirming the stay of a bird not heard yesterday from the weekend and locating another this morning in a new location took the Grasshopper Warbler tally to 16 males -- a planned nocturnal visit this evening will hopefully confirm just how many others are out there -- Tree Pipit the only other notable bird this morning |

now 21 singing Groppers and up to 4 Swifts over garden but none around the pits |
