Singing Nightingales were recorded at 5 different locations today at Whisby NP and involved a minimum of 4 birds. Of interest the average arrival date for the first bird of the year is usually 15th April so to have at least 4 birds in by 14th April is unprecedented in the time I have been surveying them (8 years now).

For those interested, with birds now in albeit early, and with the forecast of warmer conditions over the next few days, next week may well present an ideal time for connecting with them. Early to mid morning (7.00am- 10.00am) and evening (7.00pm – 9.00pm, park sensibly in Thorpe village and walk in to avoid getting locked in the car park) are good times when there are usually few other visitors about. Avoid the middle of the day when activity can be quiet and Bank Holidays which are just horrendous!

Regards

Grahame
