Despite having lived only six miles away from Elsea Wood for more than 25 years this morning was my first visit. What a jewel! I heard calls and the song of the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and glimpsed it as it flew off a well holed tree stump. I also was a pair of Nuthatches mating, two pairs of Treecreepers, at least 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers and a Garden Warbler. Also the highest density of Stock Doves of any of the local woods. The flora is also superb with carpets of bluebells contrasting with the yellow of archangel.
On the way back at the top of Ringstone Hill I spotted a Raven.
Regards,
Ian
