Thanks to Steve K and John B for sorting this trip out.

A very interesting morning, although it proved almost impossible to get very close to the scoter flocks without flushing the birds (the main flock took flight when we were at least 1 km away.)

Of interest:

1 drake Velvet Scoter seen near the LBC bird hide (no boat needed to see this bird!)
c65 Velvet Scoter off Friskney(?) in a mixed flock with approx.
c1500-2000 Common Scoter
1 "white" Scoter - a pure albino bird

The image below shows part of a mixed flock, with 9 Velvet's, the single "White" Scoter centre frame and approx. 200 Common Scoter.

Excellent morning out - cold though going into the wind
My first trip but hopefully not the last
Nice contrast at Kirkby Moor on the way home with the warblers, woodpeckers and the treecreepers
Thanks Steve and John
