On a day where I SHOULD have gone to the coast, I went to Lincoln instead, and got excellent views of the Lincoln Cathedral pair of Peregrines. Both birds active around the building, making the pigeons behave in a thoroughly unsettled manner - even the Jackdaws looked furtive! Saw Sparrowhawk, Kestrel and 2 Buzzards along the journey from Boston railway station to Lincoln Central station, and on the return leg, a group of about 25 Sand Martin using an artificial nesting bank on the South Forty Foot. This brings my Year List into 3 figures - hit 100! Between Swineshead and Hubbert's Bridge, a pair of Great Crested Grebes were in the 'head-shaking' part of their courtship. Nice chorus of birdsong around the loftier echelons of Lincoln around the castle and cathedral; Chaffinch, Wren, Blue Tit, House Sparrow, Robin, Blackbird and Goldfinch all in good voice, framed by a beautiful day's weather. The icing on the cake was of the human variety as my path intersected with that of a Mr John Kettley, as I was walking around the cathedral! John Kettley is a weatherman, and so is Michael Fish. And So is Billy Giles! And sooo is Ian Mc..... Caskillll!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db6WHtNV5-I ** Clears throat, gets coat and exits stage left ** |
