If anyone else has anymore RED KITE tag records (but, hasn't had anything back from the colour-ring system) please forward to me and I am happy to chase them up. :D

Thanks

Andrew

These are my winter tag records from Colsterworth landfill (blue tags ringed in 2010, pink tags in 2009) - to end of February only noting guidance on breeding birds

White-blue R - you have given details already but I saw this bird on 12 Dec 10 and once subsequently

White - blue A2 - a Lincs ringed bird - seen 4 Dec 10

White - blue E9 - Northants bird - seen 4 times between 28 Nov 10 and 18 Dec 10

White - pink 1 - Rutland bird - seen once 4 Dec 10

White - pink 2 - sibling of white-pink 1 - seen 4 times between 28 November and March

White - pink 74 - seen once 12 Dec - not had a return on this yet - this bird taken into care early in the new year but subsequently rehabilitated I believe.

Also had one purple (2007) tagged bird (28 Nov 10) whose number I couldn't read. Still need to send some of my recent records in to BTO

If my sums are right this means at least 10 tagged kites used the site this winter - and as tagged birds are nearly always a minority of those seen, gives an indication of turnover of birds using the site (but also some longer term stayers).

Vin
