I put my twitchers hat on yesterday even though I've never considered to be one. We started at Worlaby looking for the Taiga Geese. The land where they were reported was being looked at by several birders and we could see a tractor in the next field so decided to go to the railway and look for them on way back. We had 3 Buzz and 2 Kestrel plus several Mipits and quite a few Skylark. On arriving back at the car park I got the scope set up and started scanning the fields, someone said there were some geese in the distance. Taking into consideration I've never seen Taiga's before and had only read up on them before setting out. I looked and said there are three, then someone else spotted five more geese, a guy asked if he could look thorugh my scope and when he did he said they are Greylags, I didn't agree with him, but another guy said they were greylags and Canada's, it's up to you who you believe. I mentioned what I saw to GPC at Far Ings and he told me there are nine Taiga's at Worlaby and they had been there a few days.
We then called at Water's Edge but there was no sign of the B Redstart.
Then went to the Bearded Tit walk as I call it near the new visior centre but drew a blank.
Had an hour at Ness and saw a few Goldeneye plus the usual but no Bittern.
Then went to Target Pit in search of the Firecrest, as it turned out plenty were there taking photos, so I parked up and got the camcorder set up and managed to get a short video, while with my mate and chatting to GPC, Mick W and a few others. Also saw a male MH going west over Chowder, plus a couple of Chiffchaff. That was my first ever Firecrest so the day was a success!
