Images taken by Chris and Sue Bottomer at Wainfleet in Jan 2011, and forwarded by Kev Wilson.

Similar to a bird at Whisby NP sometime last year?

Chris and Sue showed it to me when I was introduced by Paul, Sandra and Andy in the northern car-park at Gib last Saturday. Someone mentioned the similar bird at Whisby. As I didn't see that bird I would be interested to hear from Grahame Hopwood if the two were similar

Incidently Paul had some superb photos of the crossbills

Andy's beaten me to it (too much time on your hands  ) but the similarity to the birds we occasionally get at Whisby NP (there have been several birds over a number of years Chris) is uncanny. At Whisby we call these birds 'Black-headed Blue Tits' and if memory serves me right the plumage anomally is caused by a recessive gene.

As far as I'm aware this is the first time 'Black-headed Blue Tits' have been recorded away from the Whisby/N Hykeham area.

Cheers

Grahame

Uncannily how they do look the same Grahame but I am now pondering if its the recessive gene that has caused me to go grey?
