Roy Twigg rang me at 1.30 having heard only a Common Crane, fly over Kirkby Moor area, no directions given. Then as he checked the area found the Great White Egret on the Woodhall Airfield Pit at 2pm. Pit to the right of main gate...
Please don't enter the pits...

Not a bad afternoon birding in Lincs!

Great White Egret showing very well on the far bank of the pit immediately south of the hide pit at Kirkby on Bain (the one that was nearly dry 2 to 3 years ago) from 1100 to 1230 hrs today 7th March. It first moved to the river Bain behind these pits and after about 20 mins flew off to the west, in the direction of the pits where it was seen on Sunday. There were 2f & 1m Smew on the pit to the south and 1f Smew on the pit in front of the Egret. Up to 6 buzzards in the air simultaneously over Haltham Woods, Little Egret on the far bank of the hide pit.

Best Wishes
Derek with James Hewson
